Hi,
I’m Sam.
In 2015, After 25 years as a mechanical engineer, I lost my job. At that time, I made a decision. I vowed that I would never work for anyone else, and I would not spend the rest of my life in front of a computer.

So I started carving and selling spoons. By hand. Lots and lots of spoons. I’ve been fairly successful and folks love my spoons, but spoon carving is hard work and my arthritic hands have paid the price. Along my journey to the spoon, l had to learn how to sharpen my knives and other woodworking tools. Sharpening by hand is quite labor intensive, and I wanted a more precise and faster method so I purchased one of the best wet grinders money can buy. To help pay for it, I started sharpening knives along with selling spoons at the local farmers market. It wasn’t long before the machine was paid off and the sharpening business was growing, so I started On Edge Premium Sharpening Service. I now have other machines to speed up the sharpening process that are specially adapted to ensure precise bevel angles and consitant edges. I provide my service to several of the top restaurants and chefs in the area on a regular basis as well as at the Hickory farmer’s market, where I have built up a nice clientele base. Recently I have purchased some equipment that will allow me go mobile and offer my service almost anywhere!

Of course I love my job! There is a certain zen like feeling I get while trying to achieve the perfect edge. It takes concentration and attention to detail, and it can be frustrating when the metal won’t cooperate. But when I get that hair splitting edge it is immensely satisfying and rewarding. I give every knife, woodworking tool or pair of scissors the same individual attention and I take pride in my work. I guarantee complete satisfaction or your money back!

I have a small shop at my home in Claremont, NC and live with my wonderful wife of 42 years, Cindy, and Mack, our big lovable golden retriever.
